Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra marks the occasion of Environment Day

Dehradun: The Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra, Dehradun a non-governmental organization, known for its work on human development and environment, marked the occasion of Environment Day on 5th June by organizing a workshop. In light of this day, the event was presided over by Mr. Surendra Agarwal, Chief Guest and the guest of honour, Mrs Sushma Dutta. The program was graced with their presence.

The Event took the opportunity to honour some lesser known yet the gems of the society on that auspicious day. The participants were addressed and a presentation was displayed for promoting reusable jute and cloth bags instead of plastic bags, followed by the quiz to keep up the spirit of the Environment Day, in addition, a Nukkad Natak was presented with great enthusiasm and energy which synced the theme “Do not use Plastic” and delivered the powerful message using slogans as “Plastic Mat Apnao, Ye Galti Mat Dohrao” and “Plastic ki Duniya hai Sari, Socho Sabhi Baari Baari. In the later half, an awareness campaign was carried out in the parts of the town on the usage of cloth/jute bags instead of plastic bags.

The Special Attraction of the event was to Honour the Hidden gems of the society, for their impeccable and consistent contribution in the field of Conservation of Environment, with ‘AVDHASH KAUSHAL FRIENDS OF ENVIRONMENT AWARD.’ These awards were conferred to Mrs Jayati Talapatra from Delhi, Mrs Tripti Mittal from Delhi, and Mrs Vineeta Thapa from Dehradun. The Chief Guest, Mr. Surendra Agarwal shared his sentiments connected with RLEK and he stated that the main goal for a law-abiding citizens must be to serve justice to its maximum limit and conserve environment to the best of one’s capabilities to have a sustainable environment.

Mrs Sushma Dutta, the Guest of Honour, in her speech stated that the change begins from within therefore one should take a step forward, for protection of environment, from one’s own home and work towards sustainability. The chairperson of the Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra, Mrs. Pratima Menon, spoke about the need for ensuring sustainable environment for the benefit of the present and as well for the future generations. The event included the presentation exhibited on the ill effects of plastic and alternatives were presented. Also, RLEK took this opportunity to inculcate into the spectators to take better care of the environment, through taking some recycling measures along the right lines of recycling methodology.
