The Kisan Mela showcased the technologies developed by different Division of the Institute

Dehradun: Kisan Mela was organized in Forest Research Institute, Dehradun on 7 th September The programme was organized by Extension Division, Forest Research Institute, Dehradun. The Director, Forest Research Institute, Dehradun Dr. Renu Singh, IFS gave the welcome address. She welcomed all the dignitaries present and gave a detailed outline of the programme.

The Chief Guest for the programme was A.S. Rawat, IFS Director General, Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education who chaired the inaugural session and gave the inaugural address. The programme concluded by vote of thanks by Ms. Richa Misra, IFS Head, Extension Division, FRI. After the inaugural session, the Chief Guest formally inaugurated the Mela cum Exhibition.

The Kisan Mela showcased the technologies developed by different Division of the Institute. Silviculture and Forest Management Division, Chemistry and Bio-prospecting Division, National Forest Library & Information Centre, Genetics & Tree Improvement Division, Forest Products Division had put up stall in the venue. In addition, stall from Watershed Management, Directorate Indian Institute of Petroleum, K.V.K. Dhakrani, Institute
of Medicinal & Aromatic Plants, Indian Institute of Soil & Water Conservation put up stalls in the Mela. Stalls were also put up small entrepreneurs, SHG’s and organic farming based groups.

Technical sessions was conducted in the Kisan Gosthi hall in the mela ground. Sessions on nursery techniques for planting stock production, Quality Planting Material for productivity enhancement, agroforestry for income generation, value addition for wood/NWFPs and pest and diseases management in agroforestry were organized . A small skit to raise awareness on environment related issues and different technologies of the Institute was also showed before the audience.

The anchoring of the programme was carried out by Ms. Vijaya Ratre, IFS. The programme was well attended by farmers who came from Dhulkot, Dhalwala Rishikesh, Roorkee, Umaidpur Premnagar, Dehradun etc. At the end of the programme an interactive session was organized which was chaired by Director, FRI. The entire team of Extension Division Dr. Charan Singh, Dr. Devendra Kumar, Rambir Singh, Vijay Kumar, Preetpal Singh, Poonam Pant, Ramesh, Shri Anil Kumar, Kheema Nand, Chandra Mohan worked tirelessly to make the programme successful.
