Oak Grove School Celebrated International Women’s

Mussoorie 10 th  March: International Women’s Day was celebrated today, March 10 th , 2023 in the school auditorium, dedicating the day to all the strong women in the world, specially the students and teachers belonging to the Oak Grove School family. The Chief Guests of the International Women’s Day were Ms. Shruti Sharma, IAS (P) (AIR-1) , Ms. Ankita Agarwal, IAS (P) (AIR-2) and Ms. Gamini Singla, IAS (P) (AIR- 3), the top three rank holders in Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination of 2021.
This year the theme of International Women’s Day was Digit All: “Innovation and technology for Gender Equality”. Exploring the impact of the digital gender gap on broadening social and economic inequalities.

Speaking on the occasion Ms. Shruti Sharma, topper of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Exam said that the International Women’s Day encourages us to highlight what women across the world have achieved in the past; and also, to ask what more can we do to remove the barriers in the future progress of women. It is our job to ensure that more young women have the scientific education they need so that we have the female scientists and mathematicians of the future to follow the footsteps of luminaries such as Marie Curie and Rosalind Franklin. While answering to one of the student’s question, Ms. Ankita Sharma gave the idea of ‘Freedom of Choice’ for a women. Adding to the concept Sharma said it should be a women’s choice to pursue a career of her choice and she should be free to choose whether or not to have a professional career altogether.

Ms. Gamini Singla gave the concept of imbibing one quality per day while encouraging the students to make the best use of their school days and using its synergy to grow from within. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Abhishek Kesarwani, Principal, Oak Grove school said that in the final result of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Exam 2021, women secured the first three positions. Shruti Sharma and Ankita Agarwal got AIR 1 and AIR 2, respectively, while Gamini Singla secured all India third rank. Mr. Kesarwani further added that Shruti Sharma is a hardworking student who has recently cleared the Union Public Service Commission mains examination 2021 and has got a top position in the CSE exam.

Ankita Agarwal who secured AIR 2 in her third attempt, hails from Kolkata. Ankita completed her school education in Kolkata and earned her bachelor’s degree in Economics from St Stephen’s College of Delhi University. She chose Political Science and International Relations as her optional subjects. Gamini Singla, a student at Punjab Engineering College in Chandigarh, secured the third position Civil Services Exam, in her second attempt. Mr. Kesarwani further added that the students are getting this historic opportunity of interacting with three of the most accomplished and inspiring women of the country today.

Undoubtedly the session has left a lasting impression on the young minds of the students and they must make full use of this knowledge session to dream big and be more successful in their lives.
