SPIC MACAY holds Lec Dem on Bharatanatyam by Lakshmi Parthasarathy at The Aryan School

20th April 2023, Dehradun: SPIC MACAY organized a mesmerizing lecture demonstration of Bharatanatyam by renowned dancer Lakshmi Parthasarathy at The Aryan School today under their month-long SPIC MACAY fest.  During her recital, Lakshmi Parthasarathy mesmerized the students with her graceful movements and captivating expressions. The program commenced with a salutation to the Goddess Saraswati. Lakshmi began her performance with the Shiva Panchakshara Stotram of Adi Shankaracharya, a beautiful composition that set the tone for the day. She during the occasion said, “It’s wonderful to be here this afternoon. I would like to thank SPIC MACAY to give us the opportunity to meet you all.”

Lakshmi Parthasarathy then went on to perform a composition of Raja Swati Tirunal in Saveri Raga, which depicted the episode of Hanuman’s devotion and dedication to Lord Rama. She skillfully portrayed the scene of Hanuman meeting Sita in Lanka and carrying the Sanjeevani mountain to save Lakshmana’s life, leaving the audience in awe. The piece was choreographed by the famous Guru Chitra Vishwesvaran Ji, who is also Lakshmi Parthasarthy’s Guru. Her movements were precise and graceful, and her expressions were powerful, capturing the essence of the story and the emotion behind it. Despite being a young and energetic mother of two, Lakshmi Parthasarthy’s passion for Bharatanatyam is evident in her every move. She lights up the stage with her presence, and her performances leave a lasting impression on the audience.

Speaking on the occasion, The Principal B Dasgupta said, “The event was a celebration of Indian classical dance and culture, and Lakshmi Parthasarthy’s performance was the highlight of the day. Her dedication to her art form and her commitment to preserving Indian classical dance and culture is an inspiration to many.” Lakshmi Parthasarathy, a distinguished exponent of Bharatanatyam, showcased her skills with grace and poise. She was accompanied by Vidya Ravindran Anand on Nattuvangam, M Dhanamjayam on Mridangam, and Ila Sangeeta Dileep on Vocal and Violin. The music and dance complemented each other perfectly, leaving the audience mesmerized.

Central Sangeet Natak Akademi Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar Awardee (2013) Lakshmi Parthasarathy Athreya is a noted Bharatanatyam soloist of her generation. She has presented her art in various prestigious venues and festivals in India and abroad. She is a senior disciple of the Bharatanatyam legend Guru Chitra Visweswaran in Chennai for over 35 years. ‘A’ graded artist with the Doordarshan, Lakshmi’s work is well-researched and innovative in approach.  The students were inspired and enthralled by the beauty and elegance of Bharatanatyam, and many expressed their desire to learn more about this art form.
