Dehradun: St. Joseph’s Academy organized the 14th Bro. E.T.Dunne Memorial English and Hindi Debate Competition on 13th August 2022.This debated was divided into rounds- first one was the Turncoat round and the Extempore debate .
The topic for the second round, i.e ,extempore debate was ‘This house believes that the Great Resignation post Covid -19 has paved a way to happier and more contented lives.’ The debate commenced with the lighting of the inaugral lamp by the Chief Guest -the school Principal , Rev. Bro. Jeyaseelan , the Vice Principal, Rev. Bro. Astinus Kujur and the esteemed judges ,.Nadira Ahmed, Randhir Arora and Tripti Chopra.
The second round was the Turncoat round also remained equally exciting and thought provoking .The results of the English Debate were as follows 1st Runner Up speaker – Anushree Butola of Bergin House, Best Speaker – Aryaman Bhatia of Bergin House Best Interlocutor – Yash Gupta of Dooley House, Best Rebuttal – Aryaman Bhatia of Bergin House, Best Speaker (Turncoat) – Anushree Butola of Bergin House, Best Team was Bergin House.
The second round of Hindi Debate followed after a short break. The topic for the hindi debate was,’ Aaj Bharat sache arth me ashishnu ho gya hai.’ The Hindi Debate was adjudged by Paras Gupta, Lakshmi Bahukhandi and Tanuja Singh. After the debaters had spoken out their thoughts , the judges shared their views with the audience and enlightened the students with regards to the topics and debating in general.
The results of the Hindi Debate were as follows 1st Runner Up Speaker – Swarnim Sethi of Donovan House, Best Speaker – Akshat Gupta of Dooley House, Best Interlocutor – Gurkeerat Kaur of Bergin House, Best Rebuttal – Achyut Chaturvedi of Dooley House,1st Runner Up Team – Donovan House, Best Team – Dooley House.
The war of words and wit culminated with Bergin House bagging the overall trophy .
