Dehradun, May 6: Laxmi Rawat of Government Inter-College, Thalisain, put up a stellar performance as she won the Girls’ Under-16 800m event to complete a double in athletics on the second day of the Sports For All Championship Uttarakhand 2022 held at the Maharana Pratap Sports College here on Friday. She clocked 3:00.98s.
After securing the first place in the Girls’ Under-16 400m race on Day 1, young Rawat raced away to glory in the 800 metres event. Saiman Ansari of G G High School, Shamshergarh claimed the silver medal by clocking 3:04.71, while Satyeshwari Devi Memorial Public School’s Samiksha Raturi settled for bronze by clocking 3:17.21 secs.
Meanwhile, hosts Maharana Pratap Sports College lads dominated the race in the Boys’ Under-18 3000m. Mayank Rathour won with a good timing of 9:57.22 secs to take the gold medal. His schoolmates Salab Kumar (11:00.18 s) and Ankur Kumar (11:52.20s) secured the second and third place respectively.
Braving the searing heat conditions, the Maharana Pratap Sports College’s Athletics track was abuzz with excitement and enthusiasm, as parents, teachers and coaches came in good numbers to cheer the young athletes.
Elsewhere Him Jyoti School, Dehradun, led by Anjali Negi, dominated the show in the discus throw when they swept all three medals. Anjali was the clear winner as she threw the discus to a distance of 17.80m. Mansi Rawat bagged the silver medal with her 14.43m throw and Lakshmi Kokliyal settled for bronze with 13.70m.
Vantage Hall Girls’ Residential School’s Khushi Gupta hogged the limelight in the Girls’ Under-16 Discus event with an impressive throw at the 16.50m mark. Her schoolmate Aratrika Ghosh (15.28m) took the silver and Anu of Rajkiya Girls Inter College, Ajabpur Kalan (12.95m) the bronze.
In the Boys’ Under-16 High Jump event, Utsav Tyagi of Maharana Pratap Sports College scaled an impressive 1.50m mark to take home the gold medal. Patanjali Gurukulam, Haridwar’s Akash Yadav won the silver medal with 1.45m and Maharana Pratap Sports College’s Priyansu Negi settled for the bronze medal with 1.40m.
Friday marked the final day of the Athletics event in the 18-sport Championship. Over the weekend, the city will witness shooting at Social Baluni Public School, Skating at The Tonsbridge School and Football at Pavilion Ground.
