Dehradun:The 7 th Edition of the SelaQui Invitational Soccer Tournament commenced on the 3 rd of September 2022. This Edition will witness twelve premier football teams from elite institutions of the country battling it out for four days; from the 3 rd of September till 6 th of September 2022. The twelve teams are The Kasiga School Dehradun, Wynberg Allen Mussoorie, The Doon School Dehradun, Welham Boys School Dehradun, Tulas International School Dehradun, Mayo College Ajmer, Punjab Public School Nabha, Jain International School Bangalore, The Sagar School Alwar, Pinegrove School Solan – including two teams from the host school – Team Red and Team Blue.
The teams have been divided into two pools and matches will be played on league basis. The prize money for this Edition is Rs 1.5 Lakhs for the winning team and Rs 50,000 for the runners-up. The Opening Ceremony was organized at the ‘Vishwangan’; the football field of the SelaQui International School, Dehradun. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Vinay Pande, the former Headmaster of The Lawrence School, Sanawar and the founding Headmaster of Sarala Birla Academy, Bangalore. The dugouts were packed to witness the ceremony as well as the inaugural match between SelaQui International School, Dehradun (Team Red) and Tulas International School, Dehradun.
The proceedings commenced with the eight participating teams out of twelve marching to the beat of the national song ‘Saare Jahan se Acha’. The Sports Captain of the host school took the oath of fair play along with the team captains of the participating schools. The Chief Guest then addressed the gathering and declared the tournament open. SelaQui’s Team Red won the inaugural match against Tulas International School – stunning the opponents and witnesses alike with their skill and stamina.
