Dehradun. A programme was organized by the Nephrology Department of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital to mark the occasion of World Kidney Day with the theme ‘Kidney Health for All’. In the programme, specialists raised concern over the alarming increase in the number of kidney patients. They also
dissipated knowledge about the causes, symptoms, prevention and treatment of kidney diseases. Kidney donors were also honoured over the occasion of World Kidney Day celebration. It’s significant to mention that every year the second Thursday of March month is celebrated the world over as World Kidney Day.
To mark the occasion, a programme was organized at the auditorium of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital. The programme was begun with lamp-lightning by the Chief Guest of the programme Vice Chancellor of Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Dr. Uday Singh Rawat. The programme was attended by kidney specialists, kidney patients, their family members, kidney donors, doctors,medical students, staff nurses and the general public. First of all, the participants were welcomed byHOD, Deptt. of Nephrology, Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Dr. Alok Kumar. After that, Saraswati Vandana was sung by Dr. Dorchem Khrime, Professor, Medicine which impressed the audiences very much.While addressing the gathering, Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor, SGRR University, Dr. Uday Singh Rawat said that kidney diseases are detected too late which becomes life threatening to the patients.
He urged the people of the far flung hill areas of Uttarakhand to be more aware over Kidney health and related diseases so that kidney diseases can be treated in primary stage only before they become deadly. Dr. Alok Kumar in his address threw light over the significance of World Kidney Day and its relevance to India. He said that complete arrangement of treatment of Kidney diseases is available at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital under the supervision of super specialist doctors. He said that there is complete facility of Kidney Transplant at the Kidney Transplant Unit of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital. He informed that a total Twelve successful kidney transplants have been done at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital. Nephrologist Dr. Vivek Ruhela said that high blood pressure and diabetes are the main causes of kidney diseases. A Panel discussion was also organized during the programme. Sharma explained the scientific and medical aspects of kidney donation. He informed that family members of brain dead patients can also decide to donate the kidney of their patient. Urologist Dr. Vivek Vijan said that Kidney Transplant is the only treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease. He said that any healthy male or female of the age group of 18 to 65 years can donate a kidney. There are so many misconceptions in the society that make the people fearful of kidney donation which must becleared. He said that the patient leads a normal life even after kidney donation.
