Dr. BK Joshi’s book ‘Parade Ground to Lansdowne Chowk – Making of Doon Library & Research Center’ launched

: Dr. Bhupendra Kumar Joshi, an accomplished academic and former Vice Chancellor of Kumaon University, has launched his new book titled ‘Parade Ground to Lansdowne Chowk – Making of Doon Library & Research Center.’

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Joshi said, “My book ‘Parade Ground to Lansdowne Chowk – Making of Doon Library & Research Center’ talks about the history and achievements of Doon Library over the years for the information of youth and mass readers. It also shares achievements made by the library and brief biographies of some of the greatest persons who established Doon Library and transformed it with the new world.”

Adding further he said, “This book is a tribute to the legacy of Doon Library and the people who have made it a vibrant and inclusive institution. We hope that this book will inspire the youth and the general public to appreciate the value of libraries as a source of knowledge, culture, and social cohesion.”

Dr. Joshi, who is the Founding Trustee of the Doon Library & Research Centre, has been associated with the institution since its inception in 2009. After completing his Masters from Allahabad, Dr. Joshi obtained a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Hawaii, USA. He went on to become a Professor at the same university from 1963 to 1979. He has held several important positions in the field of education, including the Director of the Giri Institute of Development Studies in Lucknow from 1980 to 1996 and the Vice Chancellor of Kumaon University from 1996 to 1998.

Dr. Joshi has also worked as an independent consultant on primary education and participatory approaches with organizations such as Save the Children-UK, UNICEF, and the governments of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Serbia, and Macedonia. In addition to his academic and consulting work, Dr. Joshi is also the Founder and Honorary Director of the Doon Library & Research Centre and a member of the Policy Planning Group in Uttarakhand.
