Dehradun: Just like every year, this year also, a special programme was organized in the honour of Cancer Warriors by the Cancer Surgery Deptt. of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital. In the programme, patients and their family members who became ideals for the society after winning the war against Cancer. Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital has made the day of 30 th of October very special by honouring the patients and their family members with prizes. The faces of cancer patients and their family members glowed after getting honoured. The doctors and nursing staff of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital carried out a rally with the objective of spreading awareness about Breast Cancer.
The participants were carrying placards showing messages like ‘cancer has to be fought not to be feared of’ which made the common people aware of Cancer. On Sunday, 30 th October 2022, the programme was initiated at the auditorium of Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences jointly by Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal, Principal, Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences, Dr. Yashbir Dewan, HOD, Deptt. of Cancer Surgery Deptt., Dr. Pankaj Garg by lamp lightening. While addressing the gathering at the occasion, programme’s Chief Guest, Forest & Technical Education, Subodh Uniyal congratulated the Cancer winners for being victorious over Cancer.
He emphasized that without strong will power, it’s impossible to win any war. Any objective in life cannot be stronger than the courage of the human beings. He urged the Cancer Warriors to function as the ambassadors of war against Cancer in the society and spread awareness about Cancer treatment.
The Cancer Surgery Deptt. honoured more than 100 Cancer patients to mark the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness month. These Cancer Patients have successfully completed their treatment and are now leading a Cancer free healthy life. The programme was organized with the joint efforts of Association of Breast Surgeons of India and SGRR University College of Nursing. While addressing the gathering over the occasion, HOD, Deptt. of Cancer Surgery of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Dr. Pankaj Garg said that Breast Cancer is the most common form of cancers in India. He said that if the treatment gets started in the initial stage, the treatment of Breast Cancer can be done completely. A 32 years old young lady while sharing her experience with the gathering narrated the whole story that how she became a patient of Breast Cancer, then she got treatment at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital where not only she was saved from Breast Cancer, but also her diseased breast was reconstructed using special plastic surgery techniques.
Another 42 years old woman shared her experience that her both breasts had become infected of Cancer were treated and reconstructed. She appealed all the women of developing a habit of breast self examination at regular intervals and in case they find any abnormality like swelling in the breasts, they must immediately consult a Cancer Surgeon. Over this occasion, the rally to spread awareness about Breast Cancer was also organized. The rally started from Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences and went to Kargi Chowk from where it came back and concluded at Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences.
At this occasion, various competitions like Rangoli, Posters, Slogans and Poems over the theme of Breast Cancer were also organized. Chairman of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Shri Mahant Devendra Das Ji Maharaj congratulated the doctors of Cancer Surgery Department and showered his divine blessings over them. It’s worth mentioning that in April 2021, the department of Cancer Surgery was established at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital. In the short period of just 18 months, more than 2,000 Cancer patients have got treatment here. A 300 bedded hospital fully dedicated for the treatment of Cancer patients of Uttarakhand and nearby areas is being constructed. Professor SVS Dev, who is the President of Association of Breast Surgeons of India and is a senior Cancer Surgeon of AIIMS, New Delhi, was the Guest of Honour.
He, in his address, said that after the patients who recover from Cancer after successful treatment, feel anxiety and keep encountering the recurrence of Cancer. It’s of utmost need that the patients who recovered from Cancer, are in extreme need of emotional support from their family members, friends and Cancer specialists and they must ensure support towards them. Cancer Surgeon of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Dr. Ajeet Tiwari said that if treatment is started at the initial stage, the complete treatment of Cancer is possible.
Cancer Surgeon Dr. Pallavi Kaul emphasized that the people who recovered from cancer must go for regular investigations throughout the life to ensure that there is no recurrence of Cancer.
