Dehardun/ 29 October 2021 Chief Minister Uttarakhand, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami announced an increment of payable amount under Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Scheme in a cabinet meeting held before Diwali.
The scheme which was implemented in Uttarakhand aims to promote self-employment in Uttarakhand wherein a subsidy of 50% that is 15 Lakh Rs were given to eligible candidates to buy luxury buses i.e Electric Van, Caravan, etc. The amount after the amendment was increased to 20 lakh Rs.
Similarly, changes were done in buying or development of private vehicle bus/taxi transport facilities, construction of motor garage/workshop, the establishment of fast food centres, hotels, etc wherein a subsidy of 33% was given by the department that is Rs 15 lakh was increased to Rs 33 lakh rs.
Lastly, an amount increment was done for individuals willing to buy normal busses which earlier were provided with a subsidy of 25 % that was 10 Lakh Rs which was increased to 25 lakh Rs respectively.
Adding more in this Secretary Tourism Shri Dilip Jawalkar said, “Nearly 6739 individuals were benefited under this scheme so far. The amendment in the scheme will surely bring the desired results where more people will be connected to self-employment.
In the year 2002, the State Government started the Tourism Self-Employment Scheme with the objective of developing tourism as an industry. Later its name was changed to ‘Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Tourism Self-Employment Rules 2002’. This is a very popular scheme providing employment in the field of tourism in Uttarakhand. From the inception of the scheme till present, 6739 local persons have been benefitted under this scheme.
Tourism Minister Shri Satpal Maharaj said, ” We welcome the dicision by our honourable CM. This has given a much needed relief to people seeking self employment.”
Tourism Secretary Shri Dilip Jawalkar says, “In view of the number of applications received under this scheme against the target, it was proposed to increase the subsidy amount so that more and more people can get benefits of this scheme. We hope that the decision of the state government will increase the amount of assistance under the Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Yojana and will encourage the youth of the state to set up self-employment in the tourism sector.”
It is pertinent to mention that under this scheme hotels, motels, resorts, yoga meditation centers, taxis, caravan/motorhome tourism, terrain bikes, kayaking, angling and trekking equipment can be developed. Subsidy is given for establishment of bakery and laundry etc. A person willing to take advantage of the scheme can apply by visiting the website www.vcsgsheme.uk.gov.in. After that the concerned district tourism offices can be contacted as per the requirement. The selection of the beneficiaries is done after the examination by the committee headed by the District Magistrate.
