Pantnagar / Rudrapur: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Uttarakhand organized a two-day Manufacturing Excellence Learning Mission to World Class Companies in Kumaon on 22 – 23 September 2022. CII industry delegation visited four companies that have excelled in the auto sector Tata Motors Limited, Ashok Leyland Limited, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, and Bajaj Auto Limited. The key objective of the mission was to share & learn the best practices in manufacturing operations of the visited companies that make them leaders in their respective areas of work and to enhance competitiveness.
Mr Anal Vijay Singh, Plant Head, Tata Motors, Pantnagar interacted with participants also briefed about the Pantnagar facility. Mr Anand Ranjan, DGM Govt & Public Affairs, Tata Motors Limited, Pantnagar, while addressing the participants shared that such missions provide an opportunity to the participants to have first-hand exposure and insight on the technological strengths of the visited companies. He expressed that such activities share various innovative and successful practices implemented at the workplaces of these organizations, providing great learning opportunities to the mission members.
At Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, Rudrapur the delegates were provided an overview of the best manufacturing practices of the plant. During the visit various cost saving techniques, tools were shared with the delegates. Participants were showcased cost saving techniques of the plant and were explained how Rudrapur plant is working on minimum material movement which is like the manufacturing facilities in Japan. These techniques not only save the time and to cost to manufacture the product but overall increase in profit.
Senior officials of Ashok Leyland Limited, Pantnagar plant shared the vision of their company and appraised delegates about the various area specific programs undertaken in plant manufacturing processes and various manufacturing excellence techniques were showcased. During the visit delegates were taken to major shop floor managing its operations though world class processes. Shop floor Kaizens were shared and briefed for enhancing competitiveness.
At Bajaj Auto Limited, Pantnagar Plant, participants were showcased about the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) practices. Senior official explained how they have applied key pillars of TPM to their processes within their plants to achieve long term benefits. With some practical examples they shared how they are working continuously on improvement to keep the organization ahead in this competitive world.
During the 2-day mission ideas & thoughts were exchanged on how TQM, TPM, Supply Chain Management, Employee Involvement, Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizens can help organizations to grow and attain high profitability levels. The companies also shared their CSR and HR initiatives.
19 delegates from 10 companies across the spectrum like APPL Packaging, Jakson Engineers Limited, Livepure, Livguard Batteries, Siddharth Grease & Lubes Pvt. Ltd., Manika Plastech Private Limited, Otto Bilz India Private Limited, RSB Transmissions (I) Limited, Sandvik Materials Technology India Private Limited, Sulzer India Private Limited were part of this delegation.
