Dehradun, 10 October 2022: The second day of Virasat Arts’ and Heritage Festival 2022 began with the program ‘Virasat Sadhana’. Virasat Sadhana based on Indian classical singing was performed by 24 talented children from 19 schools in Dehradun. The children performed on popular ragas of India, whereas some students presented Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi.
Children also gave their enchanting performances on the instruments like Tabla, Harmonium and Sitar. In the Virasat Sadhana, Ojaswini Bhatt (Social Baluni Public School) gave a beautiful performance on (Raag Des) while Yogesh and Raghav complimented with Tabla and Harmonium. Along with this Jayanshi Sukla (Convent Jesus and Mary) Sangeet (Raag Des) Drishti Kanojia (Banayantree Public School) Sangeet (Raag Bhairav) Deepak Bhardwaj (Ghungroo Kathak Sangeet Mahavidyalaya) Instrumental (Tabla) Shivranjani Karmakar (Philphot Public School) Instrumental (Sitar) and children from many other schools also presented a captivating show.
The Virasat Sadhana lasted from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm followed by certificates distribution on behalf of Virasat to the participants. The cultural evening started with lamp lighting followed by classical music performances – jugalbandi of Dr. Prabhakar Kashyap and Dr. Diwakar Kashyap. His renditions began with the beautiful bandish ‘Piya Ghar Aaye’ from Raga Yaman in Rupak Vilambit.
His next rendition was in the middle rhythm, ‘Aise Sundar Sugrava Balam’ and ended with bandish in Drut Laya, ‘Sapta Suran Guna Ram Ko Diya’ in Raag Mishra Khamaj in a beautiful Dadra performance of ‘Rakhiyo Balam Wahi Nazriya’. Kumar Padmakar Kashyap, son of Dr. Diwakar also performed with him. He was accompanied by the extremely talented Paromita Mukherjee on harmonium and Pandit Mithilesh Jha on Tabla. Dr. Prabhakar Kashyap and Dr. Diwakar Kashyap born into a family of musicians, the Kashyap brothers, received their early musical education from their parents, Pt. Ramprakash Mishra and Mrs. Meera Mishra. Later both of them were educated by Acharya Padma Bhushan Pt. Rajan Mishra and Pt. Sajan Mishra of Banaras Gharana is reputed for its unique lyrical and pleasing sweetness.
The Kashyapa brothers have a powerful and expressive voice, which reaches equally across all three octaves. His performance was flawless and marked by the gentle manifestation of ragas. Both have mastered this duet style of singing that requires a lot of coordination, wherein the rendition of melody and complex tones is mesmerizing and soothing. The concluding star performance was by popular playback singer Suresh Ishwar Wadkar and people walked out completely enchanted. Suresh Wadkar started with the popular bhajan which attracted everyone towards the stage.
Apart from this, he performed many of his popular Hindi songs with the support of his daughter Ananya Wadkar. He was accompanied by Ramesh Mishra (Band Leader Keyboards), Kabir Das (Keyboards), Dinesh Kumar (Octopad), Neeraj Kumar (Tumbas and Percussion), Imran Khan (Tabla), Mahesh Mishra (Drummer),
