Dehradun. 23 rd November 2022. World Antimicrobial Awareness Week-2022 was celebrated from 18 th to 23 rd November with utmost enthusiasm by Shri Guru Ram Rai University School of Paramedical Sciences. It’s significant to mention that world over 18 th to 23 rd November 2022 is celebrated as ‘World Antimicrobial Awareness Week’. The programme was organized by the Deptt. of Microbiology and Medical Lab Technology of School of Paramedical Sciences in which a number of events were organized throughout the week at SGRR University School of Paramedical Sciences that included quiz competition, poster competition, debate, etc. on themes related to Antimicrobial Awareness.
On Wednesday, the Closing Ceremony of this week was organized with melodious musical presentations from the students. Till late in the evening, the students danced and sang on the rhythms of Bollywood, Garhwali, Punjabi and Himachali melodies. On Wednesday, the programme was initiated jointly by lmap lightening by Guest of Honour of the Programme and Dr. Dimple Raina, Central Lab. Director, Shri Mahant Indiresh hospital and Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences, Dr. Malvika Singh, Dean, School of Paramedical Sciences, SGRR University and Dr. Associate Professor Dr. Neha Chauhan, HOD, Deptt. of Microbiology and Lab Technology, School of Paramedical Sciences, SGRR University.
This was followed by Saraswati Vandana sung in a melodious voice by Anjali, student of B.P.T., Second Year. While addressing the gathering over the occasion, Dr. Malvika Singh said that this year the theme of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week has been set by World Health Organization (W.H.O.) as ‘Preventing Antimicrobial Awareness Together’. She explained the significance of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week and the theme selected by W.H.O. for this year.
She said that this year’s theme emphasizes the need for joint efforts by health professionals including doctors, paramedics, etc. as well as common public to prevent disease causing microbes to develop resistances against medicines given to the patients. She said that common people must keep away from self medication which can prove fatal. She said that for any disorder or discomfort people must consult the doctors, get tests done in the lab. as prescribed by them and then after diagnosis of the disease, the medicines prescribed by the doctors must be strictly taken. She laid emphasis over the completion of whole course of medicines by
patient for the prescribed number of days by the doctor.
She said that common habit in the society to discontinue treatment after getting initial relief is not recommended. Patients must keep away from this habit. She explained overall maintenance of cleanliness like washing hands properly before meals, etc. Guest of Honour Dr. Dimple Raina in her address to the gathering emphasized the role and significance of paramedics in combating diseases and leading the society to a healthier state. Colourful presentations were given by students over the occasion. Aditi, Kavita, Bharti, Palak, Kusum, Sakshi, Vandana and Anchal presented a group dance on Himachali song Nati Nati and a Garhwali song. Students Sarvesh Mohan and Sakshi Dobhal presented an attractive duo dance on bollywood songs.
Melodious flute music was played by student Aman Goswami which dominated the scenario. There were several other musical songs and dances by the students in which they displayed the excellence of their musical skills. Stage anchoring was done in a remarkable manner by students Umang Bhatt, Devanshi Rawat, Nisha Gautam, Astha Paliwal and Kastub Dogra. In the Poster competition, the Group of Anika, Tanu rather, Sakshi and Swati Negi emerged as victorious by winning the First Prieze. The Second Prize was won jointly two Groups, one consisted of Gauri, Deepika Panwar, Anaya, Kanchan while the other one was of Khushi, Astha Chauhan and Rajni Bisht.
The Third Prize was won by the group of Ritu, Diksha, Diya Semwal and Sheetal. In the Quiz Competition, the Group of Aman Rana, Sakshi Uniyal, Ritu Butola, Pranshu Kukreti and Shubhendu Mishra won the First Prize. The Second Prize was won by the Group of Devanshi rawat, Mahak Negi, Gauri and Jyoti. In the Debate which was organized over the much discussed and debated topic in the society Veganism- The most beneficial way of living for humans’. Vedang Sati debated in a remarkable manner against Veganism while Devanshu debated equally well in favour of Veganism.
The debate turned out to be extremely interesting with concrete arguments and facts presented by both of them. Both Vedang Sati and Devanshu were awarded prizes for the remarkable and knowledge imparting debate they did. Guest of honour Dr. Dimple Raina and Dean, School of Paramedical Sciences, Dr. Malvika Singh honoured all the winners of various competitions with prizes. This made all the students felt motivated to perform even better in future. Significant roles were also played by Assistant Professor Ms. Nisha Dhyani, Assistant Professor Ms. Divya Chauhan and Assistant Professor Ms. Nivedita in making the ‘World Antimicrobial Awareness Week-2022’ celebration a success.
