Dehradun. Cancer can be defeated, the war against Cancer can be won. Don’t panic, have strength-have faith. The
treatment of Cancer is possible. Over 200 faces were seen charming with wave of happiness and pride of winning
over the deadly disease of Cancer. Cancer Winners (patients who defeated Cancer) shared their experiences and
gave a message on how to win a war against Cancer at the Vijay Diwas (Winner Day) celebrated at the auditorium
of Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences.
On Sunday, Cancer Vijay Diwas (Winner’s Day) Programme was organized at the auditorium of Shri Guru
Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences by the Cancer Surgery Deptt. of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital.
The Programme was started by Dr. Durgatesh Pandey (Cancer Surgeon), Deputy Director, Tata Memorial Hospital,
Varanasi, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Garg, Professor & HOD, Deptt. of Cancer Surgery, Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Dr.
Lalit Kumar Varshney, Vice Principal, Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences, Dr. Utkarsh Sharma

In the programme, Cancer Warriors were honoured. Such people and their families who have won the won
against Cancer are leading a normal life. More than Two Hundred (200) patients and their family members who
have been treated successfully against Cancer by the Cancer Surgey Deptt. of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital were
invited to celebrate Cancer Vijay Diwas (Victory Day). These Cancer Winners expressed their happiness and shared
their experiences. These people praised the super specialist doctors, nursing staff and world class services of the
Cancer Deptt. of Shri Mahant Indiresh hospital who enabled them to defeat Cancer.
Chairman of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Shri Mahant Devendra Dass Ji Maharaj congratulated the doctors
and staff of Cancer Deptt. He said that it’s the result of extreme labour of the doctors and staff that these people
have defeated Cancer and today have smiles on their faces. He said that soon a 300 bedded Super speciality
Cancer Centre will be dedicated by Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital to serve the people.
Speaking over the occasion, Chief Guest of the programme, Dr. Durgtosh Pandey (Cancer Surgeon),
Deputy Director, Tata Memorial Hospital, Varanasi, said that the Social evils like tobacco, liquor, etc. must be got
rid of as they are the major causes of Cancer. He said that the Cancer Winners are the best brand ambassadors in
the war against Cancer. He said that if Cancer is detected in the first or second stage, then the chances of it being
cured are 80%. On the other hand, if Cancer progresses into the third or fourth stage, then it is curable only in 20%
of the cases. He said that every person must keep examining his/her body and consult the Cancer surgeon
immediately if there’s any lump formation or weight loss.
