Dehradun. Pediatric Surgeon of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Dr. Madhukar Maletha and his team have successfully carried out a rare surgery of 1100 grams weighing baby born pre mature. This case is also rare because the baby was born in the eight month of pregnancy only. The weight of the baby was far less in comparison of a health new born baby. Ordinarily, the weight of a new born baby is from 2 to 3 kilograms. After the successful operation, the ultra modern ICU care of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital saved the life of this low weight pre mature baby. The food pipe of the baby was no-existent and thus was given feed via the I.V. fluids in liquid form. It’s pleasing to see that the new born baby is able to breastfeed and drink milk from bottle.

The Chairman of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Shri Mahant Devendra Dass Ji Maharaj has congratulated Pediatric Surgeon Dr. Madhukar Maletha and his team who saved the new born baby’s life by successful operation. It’s significant to mention that a female resident of Khatima, Udham Singh Nagar gave birth to a baby boy. In the initial tests of the baby, it revealed that the food pipe of the baby was not
existent. The parents reached Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Dehradun for treatment and got the baby admitted under Pediatric Surgeon Dr. Madhukar Maletha. When Dr. Madhukar Maletha got the tests done of the new born baby, it was revealed that he was suffering from Esophageal Atresia With Double Fistula.

On emphasizing the figures, on an average, only one child in 4,500 children suffers from this disease. Due to this disease, the food pipe of the baby
was non existent and was joined with the breathing tract. Esophageal Atresia with Double Fistula is rarest of the rare as it happens in only 1% of eth cases of Esophageal Atresia. Dr. Madhukar Maletha and his team successfully carried out the surgery of the baby making his food pipe and secondly, the extra part which was an obstacle in was removed from the breathing tract.

Significant roles were also played by Senior Pediatrician Dr. Ragini Singh, Dr. Nitesh, Dr. Bharti , Anaesthesia Deptt.’s Dr. Kyizom, Operation Theatre Staff Ratna, Kalsang and Pradeep in making the operation a success. The parents of the new born baby have heartily thanked Pediatric Surgeon Dr. Madhukar Maletha, his team and the management of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital for saving the life of their baby.

“The new born baby boy was brought by his parents for treatment at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital in time. At the hospital, ICU for new born babies and ultra modern machinery played significant roles in making the operation a success and blessing the new born baby with anew life. If the parents had not been aware and hadn’t brought the new born baby for treatment in time, if the baby would have even lost his life.”
