35 Cancer patients were given free consultation on the World Cancer Day

Dehradun. On the occasion of World Cancer Day, a cancer awareness program was run by the Cancer Surgery Department of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital. On Friday, a free Cancer Medical Camp was organized in the hospital. In the camp, 35 Cancer patients were given free consultation. The department also organized a poster presentation competition to spread cancer awareness in the society. 56 elegantly made beautiful posters were presented by the Nursing Staff, Doctors, and other staff members of the hospital, highlighting the need for early diagnosis and adequate treatment of cancer patients.

The Poster Competition was inaugurated by the Principal, Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences, Dr. Yashbir Dewan. Sonia ranked first, Santosh Kumar ranked Second while the Third position was won jointly by Sitara and Vishaka. Dr. Dewan highly praised the Cancer-related awareness efforts of the Cancer Department and also the talents of the participants of the Poster Competition. He honored all the winners of the Poster Competition with prizes and citation letters. Medical Superintendent of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Dr. Ajay Pandita emphasized the importance of Cancer awareness programs to combat the menace of cancer in society. He threw light over the various Cancer treatment facilities and services available under the care of super specialist cancer doctors at the hospital.

Dr. Pankaj Garg, Head of the cancer surgery department, informed that all cancer-related treatment facilities are available in the Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital. Considering the scarcity of cancer care in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand, he highlighted that there is an urgent need for government and private hospitals to collaborate to provide cancer care in remote areas. He further stated that complete abstinence from tobacco and alcohol, adopting a healthy lifestyle, consuming a balanced diet, maintaining optimum body weight, adhering to a daily exercise schedule, and getting vaccinated for HPV and Hepatitis B can prevent cancer to a large extent. He also added that there is also a need to address the various cancer myths and misconceptions which are widely prevalent in society. These cancer myths can further shatter a cancer patient who is already fighting a physically and emotionally tiring battle with cancer There.The occasion was also marked by the auspicious presence of Dr. Ajit Tiwari, Dr. Nishith Govil, Dr. Pallavi Kaul, Nursing Superintendent Dr. Bincy Tiwari, Dr. Priyanka, Dr. Sanal and P.R.O., Cancer Deptt.
