Dehradun: The Gardner Premier League (GPL) was a thrilling cricket extravaganza that showcased the talent and passion of young cricketers from 19 boys’ teams and 10 girls’ teams. The tournament spanned over 90 hours of intense and exhilarating
cricket action from 25 th April, 2023 to 13 th May, 2023 The GPL was a highly anticipated event that attracted many schools and spectators who enjoyed the fast-paced and unpredictable nature of indoor cricket. The matches were full of drama, suspense and nail-biting finishes that kept everyone on the edge of their seats.
The girls’ final was a close contest between St. Jude’s School and St. Thomas’ College who both displayed excellent skills and teamwork. St. Thomas’ College won the toss and decided to bat first, setting a challenging target for their opponents. St. Thomas’ College fought hard but fell short by just 1 run, giving St. Jude’s School the coveted GPL trophy for the girls’ category. The boys’ final was a clash of titans between St. Jude’s School and St. Joseph’s Academy who both had impressive performances throughout the tournament. St.
Jude’s School won the toss and opted to bat first, hoping to restrict St. Joseph’s Academy to a low score. However, St. Joseph’s Academy batted with flair and aggression, scoring a massive total that proved too much for St. Jude’s School to chase. St. Joseph’s Academy won the match by 1 wicket lifting the GPL trophy for the boys’ category.
The grand finale of the GPL was graced by many distinguished guests who praised the efforts and achievements of the participants and organizers. The chief guests were Mr. Ashok Verma, Ex-Chairman, Commission for the Other Backward Classes, Government of Uttarakhand congratulated the winners and encouraged the children to pursue their sporting dreams. Other eminent guests included Mr. G.I.G. Mann, Ex- MLA, Ex-Thomasian & Director Carman Residential & Day School, Dalanwala, Dehradun Mrs. V.R. Gardner, Director, St. Jude’s School, Mr. D.P.S. Gupta, Principal, Guru Nanak Academy
