Dehradun: On Moday 2/9 Gorkha Rifles a 117 year old illustrious Infantry Battalion of Indian Army conducted a ‘Victory Run’ at Birpur to commemorate 50 Glorious years of its Battle Honor ‘Kamarkhali’ of 1971 war. This event began form Birpur Sports Complex. Rally as a Chief Guest was flag off by Col Ishwar Thapa (Retd) a War Veteran of 1971 war. On 14 Dec 1971, in the dead of the night, the brave Kanch has crossed the 120 meter wide Madhumati River in country made boats and attacked a surprised Pakistani Force in thetown of ‘Kamarkhali’. The stiff battle thereafter led to surrender of Pakistan’s 9Infantry Division.
For its unparalleled valour and contribution towards Liberation of Bangladesh, the Battalion was conferred with two Vir Chakras and the coveted Battle Honor of ‘Kamarkhali’.To commemorate this important milestone of Swarnim Vijay Varsh, the unit conducted a victory run for ladies, children, serving and retired personnel.
A total of 212 person participated in the event which was flagged off by Commanding Officer of the unit. Post the event the prizes were distributed to winner by the chief guest Col Ishwar Thapa (Retd) a War Veteran of 1971 war. during this event various dignitaries belonging to Army and Gorkhali Sudhar Sabha were present.
